This two day course prepares participants for the CRSP exam that is offered twice a year by the BCRSP.  Some take the course as a last minute review others in order to develop a study plan.  Dr. Strahlendorf has presented this course to hundreds of people across Canada over the last 15 years.  This is the prep course most people in Canada take.  If you are an occupational health & safety professional with 3 or more years experience, you may be eligible for the CRSP designation.  There are over 2,500 CRSP’s in Canada.  Employers value the CRSP as evidence of professional status and experience.

Check the Board for Canadian Registered Safety Professional’s (BCRSP) website for details of eligibility and application forms to become a CRSP www.bcrsp.ca. Many people take the course before applying to the BCRSP.  The eligibility rules for applying to the BCRSP change January 1, 2009, so if you are considering your CRSP, 2008 may be the year to take the initiative.

Location: Shaw Conference Centre

Administration of a comprehensive and effective hearing conservation/hearing loss prevention program consists of more than merely purchasing and dispensing hearing protectors. Audiometric testing, education and motivation, and program evaluation are but a few of the additional important aspects of an overall program. This seminar will review these issues and others in a practical and realistic manner, providing state-of-the-art recommendations to ensure protection of the worker and compliance with the law.

Emphasis will be placed upon an understanding of how hearing protectors function, how they are tested and rated, how they perform in the real world, and how they affect employees' ability to function on their jobs. Commercially available products will be discussed with respect to their performance and selection, fit, use, and care. The emerging technique of fit testing will also be explored.

Successful implementation of a program via education, motivation, supervision, and team work, will be stressed. Effective use of annual audiometric testing, identification of standard threshold shifts (STSs), determination of work relatedness, and take-home training skills, will also be examined.

Who Should Attend?
The program is designed for industrial, government, and military personnel who are involved in, or responsible for hearing conservation and the dispensing of hearing protection devices. Students normally include industrial hygienists, health and safety personnel, nurses, audiologists, consultants, engineers, and medical staff. Applicants should possess a basic understanding of noise measurement terminology and existing noise legislation, although attendance is open to all who are interested.

The current failure rate on CRSP exams is roughly 30% - 40%. We believe that this high failure rate occurs because candidates don't fully understand the depth and comprehensive nature of the exam and as a result, don't prepare properly. More importantly, they study in a haphazard way and easily become overwhelmed with the volume of information from which exam questions are drawn.

The objective of our workshop is to help you prepare your personal study plan and focus on the competencies that you need to master before the exam.

The workshop enables participants to identify their individual strengths and weaknesses in the 124 competencies that form the basis of the CRSP examination. The competencies are grouped into 11 categories (domains) and the fundamental information in each category is reviewed and discussed.

Participants will complete simulated exams which will identify gaps in their knowledge and skills. This gap analysis can be used to develop your own study plan and strategy. A Workshop Manual and an additional practice exam is provided for on-going practice and study.

OUR GUARANTEE

If you challenge the CRSP exam within one year of taking our CRSP Examination Preparation Workshop and are unsuccessful, you may attend another Safety Results Ltd. CRSP Examination Preparation Workshop FREE*, provided that space is available (*course must be taken within one year of your first workshop).

What’s the “safety culture” like in your company or organization?  Find out more about how you can learn to evaluate your organization's "safety culture".

Measurement is key to ensuring employees are held accountable for their health and safety responsibilities and key in providing management with the road map to safety excellence.  Are you the Health and Safety ‘navigator’ or just hoping that there aren’t too many uncharted gaps in your Health and Safety program?

Many Health and Safety professionals use or misuse methods of measurement and receive false indications of where they’re at.  A host of program measuring tools are available, but many professionals stick to only one that may not be providing a full perspective.

Attend this seminar to:
- Learn the basic principles of health and safety program evaluation
- Learn the appropriate and inappropriate uses and the strengths and weaknesses of frequently used measurement methods including:
            - Incident Statistics
            - Safety by Objectives
            - Score Cards
            - Critical Incident Technique
            - Behaviour Sampling
            - H&S Management System Assessment
            - Perception Surveys
- Assess the ‘safety culture(s)’ in your company or organizations within your company
- Participate in interactive sessions with other Health and Safety professionals and leave the course with a network of problem-solving colleagues
- Come away with a binder of prepared notes and additional resources
- Receive a CSSE certificate of participation in professional development

This Course has been designed to interest a wide audience base – anyone who has a duty under law for workplace health and safety activities from company directors to line supervisors to joint workplace safety and health committee members.  It will be of particular interest to anyone who should be involved in the measurement or assessment of health and safety programs and is looking to develop and promote a ‘culture of safety excellence’.

BCRSP has awarded this course 1.0 CMP.
